Bat night at Mount Compass

Bat night at Mount Compass

Come and learn about our critically endangered Fleurieu Peninsula Swamps and our local bats.

WHERE: Mount Compass School Environment Centre (School Road, Mount Compass)

WHEN: Wednesday 22nd March, 7:30pm

Jodie Sommerville and John Gitsham will take us for a tour on the boardwalk of the Mount Compass School Swamp and share with us the beauty of this critically endangered habitat.

Chris Grant will talk to us about the amazing world of bats;

  • what they eat
  • how they fly in the dark
  • the incredible variety of bats
  • where they live and why their conservation is important.

We will try to catch bats using mist nets and harp traps – there are 12 species we could catch. We will probably see some bats flying around if it is a nice warm night and will certainly hear their echolocation on bat detectors.
